Not much to report

Haven't done much lately worth reporting on. I had the rotary wire brush on the metal work to clean off some rust but I am busy trying to figure out what to do next. I need to take a look at the patches laid down on the floor at the front. I might lift them and put in a new piece depending on how bad the repair has been. It looks rough enough as is. There are a few wee holes as well then need welding up that I have come across on the floor. Nothing big, just pin pricks that could we sorted easily. I'll get on to these at some point. I think the next things to do, in order, are:
  • Front of the floor - take back to metal and see what sort of state it is in
  • Investigate pillar supports as a couple are looking decidedly ropey
  • Take back the paint on the floor and give a coat of primer
  • Replace the angled profile strip to take the panels that face onto the fuel tank area

That will finish the floor work. Then I need to get on to the lower 6 inches of the bus but I need a bit of sill for that and plenty of patience!

A visit to Schofields

Took a trip to Alan Schofields today. It is a real Aladdins cave. They were out of inners sills but I still managed to get my long top hat section, seals for the lights front gear change rod and the wee plastic bushel. I wont be putting these in straight away but will need them at some point.

Stripping paint

Got a bit of a run at the rear bulk head on Thursday am before heading off on holiday. As you can see I have managed to get it back to bare metal without any further surprises (i.e. holes, rust, or fiberglass!) I have also done a bit of work on the rest of the wheel arch top surfaces and they are now down to bare metal. It needs a bit more work but they will soon be nice and shiney. Time off over the next week as I am off on holiday. Bonus is that I am a stones throw away from Alan Schofields in Glossop so I will be making a visit at some point for some more fresh metal...

Floor finished

Finished welding up the patches into the floor yesterday. It took a while to get in at the end where the floor meets the rear bulkhead but it now is as solid as the day it left the factory. Started stripping down the metal work ready for a coat of rust proofing. It is taking time but it is only surface rust. A flap disc is making easy work of it.

new metal grafted in

It is taking a while to get the floor lined up and looking good but I have final put torch to metal and working my way along the seams.

If only!

Other side

Started work on the other side of the area under the fuel tank. I hummed and hawed about what to do with it and in the end, ended up cutting most of it out. There would have been too many small patches. I needed to do a fair bit of surgery on the floor but the patch fits quite nice now. It needs a bit more shaping yet. I also need to make up a piece for the fuel tank hole as that bit was shot too.
